Multidimensional Book & Movie Exploration: Mr. Nobody

July 19, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm UTC+0

Welcome to the new monthly Multidimensional Book & Movie Exploration with Rebecca Whitecotton. Our first discussion will be about Mr. Nobody, a 2009 movie about choices, love, alternate realities, and the meaning of life.

Official movie description:

A boy stands on a station platform as a train is about to leave. Should he go with his mother or stay with his father? Infinite possibilities arise from this decision. As long as he doesn’t choose, anything is possible.

One review:

I was totally captivated from start to finish. Taken simply, it’s a philosophical sci-fi film, but it’s so much more than that. It’s about choices, destinies, astrophysics, dreams and memories, just to name a few themes. Taken at its simplest, it’s the jumbled recollections of the last mortal man, 118 years old, on Earth in 2092. The problem is that his memories are in total disorder and contradictory. In practice, it means that this is a very non-linear experience in terms of time and space, real and imaginary, showing you results of important choices either way. — Quebec_Dragon on IMDb

When this meeting was scheduled, Mr. Nobody was not streaming free on any platform. But it is only $6.99 to buy on Amazon (which is recommended over renting because this movie has so many twists and turns you’ll want to watch it more than once).

Please watch the movie before July 19, and come prepared to ask questions and discuss the twists and turns of the plot and explore the many levels of meaning in this film.
